Someone Save Me

Behind the locked windows and gates
I sit her alone, to ponder my fate.
There's no one here to tell me I'm loved
And roughly to the back of the pack I am shoved!
There's nothing around to give me hope
And I hide within my could shell to cope.
I see no indication to the length of my sentence
Yet here I remain in a cold cell paying penance.
I constantly wonder what could be my crime?
Don't know why it is that I'm stuck doing this time.
Where did my family disappear to?
Why'd they dessert me?  What'd I do?
The noises in here keep me up most nights,
I stay to myself to avoid any fights.
My food is delivered with water once a day,
It's shoved through the door, and its not on a tray!
I am led to the courtyard to get some fresh air
All I do is sit in a corner, I just don't care.
And the emptiness hangs heavy in my chest
I can't help the sadness, is this just a test?
Are all of us here unwanted misfits?
Do some of us here get a chance out of this pit?
I sure wish that I could be one of those dogs,
To get a new family and live high on the hog!
My heart skips a beat as a young woman picks me!
Hope is restored, and I'll be the best I can be!

*Shelters everywhere are filled with abused and abandoned animals that need help.  Even if you can't adopt a pet, consider donating to a shelter.  Whether it be some of your time, a donation of money, or some blankets or food, it is all used and appreciated!
